3 Reasons You Should Own a Gym Franchise
August 30, 2018
If you’re thinking about building your portfolio through a franchise investment, you can’t do much better than the health, beauty and fitness industry. Owning a fitness franchise puts you dead-center of this thriving industry.
Over the last decade, the industry has seen incredible growth and all signs point to continued development and expansion in the coming years. Here are three reasons to join the movement:
1. Everyone Needs Fitness
The fitness industry has come a long way since we got our start on Venice Beach in 1965. What used to be a world dominated by musclemen has become a multi-faceted phenomenon that caters to everybody and every body type. And that’s because it works – decades of scientific and medical research have demonstrated the positive effects of increased levels of physical fitness.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention notes that regular physical activity improves overall health by promoting a more efficient cardiovascular system, increasing bone and muscle strength, and controlling weight and body fat percentage. Fitness has also been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and obesity, as well as reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
2. The Fitness Industry is Huge – And Growing
Due in part to the statistics list above, health, beauty and fitness has become an enormous $84 billion industry globally – $25 billion within the United States alone. There are currently over 150 million people with gym memberships worldwide who collectively account for over 5 billion gym visits a year. And if those numbers don’t sound good enough, industry analysis has measured 7.2 percent growth in the U.S. fitness market in recent years.
The growing attention to fitness comes in response to some staggering statistics that demonstrate the poor state of health worldwide. Nearly 70 percent of Americans over the age of 20 are overweight – 35 percent of which are considered obese. That’s nearly 160 million people. Not surprisingly, the epidemic of American obesity is linked in large part to a lack of physical activity. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services claims that only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.
3. Be a Part of a Positive Change
Because of the growing focus on fitness, the industry has undergone an incredible evolution. New styles and methods of training are gaining popularity on what can sometimes seem like a daily basis. Thanks to the internet and social media, experts and specialists industry-wide have an expansive platform to share and exchange ideas, pushing physical fitness to a wider and increasingly captive audience.
And all of this has led to fitness centers like Gold’s Gym growing in popularity and scale worldwide. We’ve created spaces for people from all walks of life to feel comfortable and confident beginning or continuing their fitness journey, and helping as many people as possible achieve their potential through fitness.
And with dozens of member-focused innovations, unmatched franchisee support, and a healthy and growing international system – we’re just getting started.
